Design intent
(+)This room at the Hotel AC Aitana, located on Madrid’s Paseo de la Castellana, has been renovated with the aim of offering a warmer, more elegant, and contemporary experience to the urban guest.
The purpose of this intervention is to update the interior design of the hotel’s rooms by applying a more current and sophisticated concept that will enable its repositioning within Marriott’s Premium category.
As part of this transformation, the hotel will be renamed Canvas Hotel, a name inspired by the world of art that defines the guiding thread of the renovation: art as the central element shaping both the space and the guest experience.
Currently, the rooms present an outdated appearance. In addition, some finishes and furniture pieces still convey an overly corporate aesthetic, which the new proposal aims to replace with a warmer, more timeless, and personalized approach.
So far, only one room has been renovated as the initial pilot for the global project, which envisions the full refurbishment of the hotel in phases.
The project is based on a clear understanding of the room’s core functions, where each element gains prominence through its function and presence. The bed, large and heavy, is conceived as the focal point of the space, with a comfortable upholstered headboard finished in natural wood. On either side, two totemic nightstands with strong visual weight reinforce the symmetry and character of the composition.
The lounge area features robust, compact pieces: a table with a stone top and solid wood base, and fully upholstered armchairs that rest directly on the floor. The generously sized luggage bench allows for two open suitcases to be comfortably accommodated.
There are no superfluous decorative elements: each piece serves a clear purpose, designed to offer the guest a comfortable, orderly, and practical stay.
The walls are covered in smooth beige vinyl wallpaper, providing a soft and uniform texture throughout. They are framed by oak slats that introduce rhythm and warmth around the perimeter of the room. The herringbone oak flooring further reinforces this sense of continuity and comfort.
The reading corner by the window becomes a small sitting area, framed by heavy ochre curtains. Presiding over the space is an original artwork by Antoni Tàpies, adding depth and character to the atmosphere.
In the bathroom, the tone shifts: a suspended vanity in veined green marble becomes the sculptural centerpiece of the room. A backlit mirror and glass sconces provide a soft, warm light that contrasts with the mineral quality of the stone.
Ultimately, the intervention seeks to transform the guest’s experience through an interior architecture that is sober, serene, and attentive to detail. A space for rest and disconnection, in the heart of Madrid.
