Telefèric Newport Beach: A New Expression of the Mediterranean in California

 

Trenchs Studio designs a new restaurant for Telefèric Barcelona in Newport Beach, reinterpreting its Mediterranean identity through a contemporary, warm and architectural language. The project combines natural materials, earthy tones, artisanal ceramics and greenery, establishing a dialogue between Mediterranean tradition and the Californian lifestyle.

 

A large terracotta ceramic screen welcomes visitors and sets the tone for the interior. The dining area is organised around an imposing suspended oval structure, creating a more intimate space within the restaurant. Beneath it, a central banquette, complemented by handcrafted vessels and greenery, becomes the defining element of the space. The layout combines different types of tables and seating, creating a variety of settings while maintaining spatial continuity. The bar and open kitchen are integrated as lively focal points, reinforcing the social and culinary character of the restaurant.

 

Wood, sponge-painted wall finishes, natural fibres, and ceramic flooring and wall coverings create a serene, timeless coastal atmosphere. Terracotta red runs throughout the design as a unifying element, appearing in lighting fixtures, decorative details and large outdoor awnings. Surrounded by greenery, the terraces extend the dining area and strengthen the connection with California’s climate and landscape.

 

Telefèric Newport Beach represents an evolution of the brand’s identity, where architecture, craftsmanship and nature come together to convey the essence of the Mediterranean through an open, light-filled and shared dining experience.
