Design intent
(+)The Helios Hotels offices in Mallorca, designed by Trenchs Studio, reflect the hotel group’s new identity: a hospitality model focused on well-being, sport, and slow tourism. As the heir to a network of Mediterranean hotels developed during the 1970s, the brand now embraces serene, human, and functional workspaces, connected to their surroundings and conceived to enhance quality of life. This approach is translated into its corporate headquarters in Palma de Mallorca, envisioned as a warm, natural workplace, far removed from the conventional office environment.
The client required an office space organized by departments and functions, without sacrificing natural light or a sense of openness. To meet these needs, the interior design project introduces dividing elements such as custom-designed lattice screens, glass partitions, and lightweight enclosures that structure the space without fully enclosing it. Carefully designed and positioned, these elements filter light, provide privacy where needed, and maintain visual continuity between areas, reinforcing an open, flexible atmosphere aligned with the brand’s values.
The space is arranged over two street-level floors, establishing a direct relationship with the exterior. At the entrance, a welcome area receives visitors with two design armchairs and a travertine marble coffee table, creating a sober yet inviting setting. As a backdrop to this composition, a circular-pattern lattice inspired by panels designed by Jean Prouvé acts as a key architectural element: it filters natural light, allows visual control of the entrance door from inside, and subtly separates the street from one of the work areas, providing privacy without losing visual connection.
Coconut-fiber mat flooring reinforces this reception area, fulfilling both aesthetic and practical functions while helping to define the entrance zone. This material coexists with a continuous floor of large-format porcelain tiles in a stone tone, which provides visual calm and a neutral base for the overall interior design. Light-colored walls enhance natural light and contribute to a balanced, enveloping atmosphere.
The ground floor also houses the corporate meeting room, open to the street. The space is organized around a large custom-made oak table, which contrasts with black upholstered chairs, lending a sober and elegant character to the office furniture. The rear wall of the meeting room, separating it from a work area, combines transparent glass partitions at the sides to allow natural light to pass through with a central section clad in glazed ceramic tiles in ochre tones, creating a warm backdrop with strong material presence. To ensure privacy from the street, wooden slatted blinds complete the architectural composition.
On the upper floor, the perforated lattice screen reappears as a recurring interior design element, maintaining project coherence while providing privacy without compromising light or visual connection between spaces. Oak wood doors with reeded glass, present on both levels, articulate and enclose the different areas, reinforcing a sense of warmth and lending a timeless character to the overall design.
Interior lighting, treated with particular care, follows the same approach found in all Trenchs Studio interior design projects: warm, focused, and non-intrusive lighting, designed to support the use of each space and contribute to a comfortable, balanced atmosphere throughout the day.
